Phase II Rail to Dulles

The Western Alliance for Rail to Dulles (WARD) is a non-profit organization of concerned property owners who are advocating the creation of a tax district to fund a portion of Fairfax County's share of the Phase II Rail to Dulles project (extending Metrorail from Wiehle Avenue to Dulles Airport and into Loudoun County). The WARD Board of Directors has successfully negotiated a petition with Fairfax County to create the Phase II Dulles Rail Transportation Improvement District. The petition includes an array of protections to insulate commercial landowners from unfair taxes should the Metrorail extension to Dulles Airport not occur as planned. We invite Phase II property owners to explore this website, which provides information, maps, background and details of the Phase II Rail to Dulles plan.

Update December 21, 2009: – Mission Accomplished! The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors today, in a special meeting, unanimously approved the creation of the Dulles Rail Phase II Transportation Tax District in accordance with the Petition submitted by WARD. The Board also appointed four of their members to the District Commission, the governing body tasked with management and oversight of the Tax District. The District Commission Members are Supervisors Hudgens, Foust, and Frye, plus Chairman Bulova. In addition, the Town of Herndon appointed Dennis Husch as their representative to the District Commission.

Congratulations and thank you to the members of WARD who provided the leadership, foresight, and proactive thinking to support this self imposed tax in exchange for the future benefits of three station stops in the Reston Herndon area.
